Hey, all.
In my last blog post I informed you about how my Film Festival was so crudely shut down only 3 weeks before the event. I also mentioned that I was to talk to Tilda Swinton via Skype. Her agent is currently in negotiations with a day and time that she is available for the Skype session, but it is still on, for sure!
Back to the Film Festival, which I am still quite sour about. A couple of weeks after we were denied, my school newspaper decided to get the story from my partner and I and write an editorial. Originally we were stoked, since the entire school would finally know what really happened and how it was handled with such little regard. We were passionate, and the entire class followed, leading to a very heated interview.
We shouldn’t of gotten so excited.
After getting a sneak peak at the completed article, to say that we were disappointed is an understatement. Of course, the article had to be screened beforehand by, of course, the very person who ultimately decided the Film Festival’s fate. Therefore, not only were there inaccuracies, but almost all of the facts were left out, leaving a very subjective article. Once again, our voices were shot down.
So, out of fury, my partner decided to do something that the school board had no control over. She called our local newspaper, and submitted our story to them. They accepted, and will publish it next month.
Tuesday we had our interview with a wonderful woman named Babara. She was sweet, attentive, and showed much passion for what we were doing. She was obviously impressed with just how much time, thought, and effort we had put into this project, and was rather taken back by how the school board and the principal handled the situation. She made sure to get all of the facts right, and even asked for our poster and photo. She was especially excited about our impending meeting with Tilda Swinton.
I can feel my fighting spirit replenishing, as I think this article, which the whole community will read, will do us and the Film Festival much justice.
I will post the article once it is published, but until then keep an eye out for more posts.
